WordPress 2.5 - Unbelievable!

I just decided to upgrade Talking WordPress to WordPress 2.5, so I was expecting to spend at least a half hour or so shutting things down, backing things up, ftp’ing files to my server, and probably screwing things up royally. Well, I was wrong. It took me about two minutes. There’s a new and wonderful plugin called WordPress Automatic Upgrade that works very well and automates the entire process.

Once this was completed, I was totally blown away by the new UI for WordPress. It’s much cleaner, it is much easier to add media and/or files to your posts, and everything seems much faster. This was well worth the wait!

Talking WordPress - Part of the MacLevelTen Media Group

I’m pleased to announce that Talking WordPress will be one of the initial member productions of the MacLevelTen Media Group! This group is being organized by longtime Mac and User Group blogger/podcaster Chuck Joiner, who works with me on the Talking WordPress podcast.

What’s MacLevelTen all about? The “about” page on that site says it best:

MacLevelTen is a group of independent media producers who deliver audio, video, web and print information for the Macintosh professional, enthusiast and user. Covering a wide variety of disciplines in the Mac world and beyond, MacLevelTen member productions are characterized by quality, reputation and the personalities of their creators.

We, the producers, plan on taking advantage of the synergy created by our aggregate knowledge to increase our readership and the quality of content. You’ll hear more about MacLevelTen after our upcoming launch.

Welcome to WordPress Media

The idea for this site came about in a phone conversation I had with Chuck Joiner, a good friend and the blogger/podcaster behind MacVoices, MacNotables, The MUG Center and a host of other sites. I’ve worked with him on and off for about a year on getting his WordPress sites up and running, and I have several sites that I run (Movable Beast, The iPhone Ranch) as well. Chuck noted that during that time we’ve both learned a lot about WordPress, and that being the “tech writer” that I am it would be a great idea if I shared my knowledge with the rest of the world. He mentioned that some of the WordPress podcasts listed in iTunes are inactive, and those that are currently podcasting often talk about nothing but what’s going on behind the scenes at Automattic, Inc. or the WordPress Project. While palace intrigue can be interesting, it’s no substitute for information that people can use.

I hope to record a series of short podcasts that you’ll be able to enjoy either from the built-in player (let’s hear it for podPress!) or on your iPod via the subscription links in the upper right part of the site. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or complaints, let’s hear them! You can call 303-800-4568 and leave a voice mail message. Your message may be used on the podcast, so keep it clean and keep it short (less than 10 minutes, please).

Don’t want to make a long-distance call? You can also use Skype to send stevesande a voice mail. And if you’re not the kind who wants to record your comments, you can register using the link at left and just leave good ol’ written comments. The more you participate, the more you’ll get out of this site!
